Twitter’s new CEO announces a major reorganization of the social networking company.



Twitter’s new CEO Parag Agrawal announced a major corporate reorganization on Friday, putting his mark on the organization after co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey suddenly stepped down earlier this week.

The redesign, intended to streamline the company’s operations and accelerate its growth, will bring together employees previously divided by function – like engineering, design and product development – into teams organized by what they work on, as the consumer product, revenue and technology core. Two executives, Engineering Director Michael Montano and Design Director Dantley Davis, will be leaving the company as part of the reshuffle and leaving the company by the end of the year, as will the Chief People Officer of the company, Jennifer Christie.

In a company-wide email obtained by The Washington Post, Agrawal said he would focus on “clear decision-making, increased accountability and faster execution,” and said he “was making a number of organizational and leadership changes to position us as well as possible. our goals. . . . The reorganization is the first clear sign that Twitter’s new leader intends to overhaul a culture that has been seen as slow to innovate and mired in internal strife. Dorsey, who unexpectedly announced his resignation from Twitter on Monday, was seen by many as a leader without intervention. He had been pressured to quit from investors and was criticized, along with executives of other social media companies, for failing to control the spread of disinformation and other harmful content.

Agrawal, 37, was unanimously chosen to succeed Dorsey by Twitter’s board, according to an official statement on Monday. At Tuesday’s all-level meeting, according to employees who attended, Dorsey highlighted Agrawal’s engineering background and the fact that he rose through the ranks for a decade on Twitter touting him as the perfect choice to lead the influential social media company. Twitter’s Kelley said the moves were Agrawal’s decision and that Montano and Davis’ departures were solely the result of organizational change.

The redesign consolidates previously separate functions, such as engineering, design and product development, under three new divisions: Consumers, Revenue and Core Technology. These divisions will be led respectively by Kayvon Beykpour, Bruce Falck and Nick Caldwell, who will obtain new titles of “Managing Director”.

“As the business grows, Parag sees this as a way to bring clarity and cohesion to Twitter,” Kelley said. Davis, previously Director of Product Design at Facebook, joined Twitter in 2019 to lead its design team. He is black and Asian and was the first black executive on Twitter to report directly to the CEO. Montano, the chief engineering officer of the company, was a long-time veteran of the company and was known as a champion of employee flexibility and the ability to work remotely, something Twitter embraced early on. .

Twitter also confirmed on Friday that Christie, her personnel manager, would be leaving the company at the end of the year. She will be replaced by Dalana Brand, Vice President of People Experience and Head of Inclusion and Diversity.

Also on Friday, Senior Director of Product Management Sara Beykpour announced that it was her last day. Beykpour, who is married to Twitter executive Kayvon Beykpour, said the timing was a coincidence with the reorganization.

Kavyon Beykpour’s rise to CEO of Consumer Products would appear to solidify his place at the company after some speculated he could be Dorsey’s successor. Beykpour led the launch of Twitter Spaces, as well as the launch and subsequent shutdown of Twitter Fleets, as part of the company’s efforts to provide different ways for users to interact and gain appeal to the general public. The company has not disclosed if there are any other CEO candidates beyond Agrawal.

When Dorsey left, he said he would continue to remain CEO of Square, which he renamed Block this week to focus on cryptocurrency.
